Welcome To The Shinzen Japanese Garden In Woodward Park, CA

Did you know that there's a traditional Japanese garden right here in Fresno, California? In this episode of Fresno Redefined, I'm going to take you on a tour of the Shinzen Japanese Garden right here in Woodward Park. We’ll learn about its history and features to give you an idea of what this beautiful gem is all about.

Welcome To The Shinzen Japanse Garden

Woodward Park is one of the largest regional parks in California. Did you know that this garden was constructed to honor Fresno’s sister city in Kochi, Japan? Fresno and Kochi became Sister Cities back in 1965, and it's Fresnos longest continuous sister city.

This beautiful garden celebrates the spirit of understanding and cultural awareness for all. One of the cool things about it is that it's designed around four seasons. There are different granite markings throughout to indicate the season represented in each area.

Enjoying The Grounds

One of my favorite parts of the Shinzen Friendship Garden is the Koi pond. It brings back really special memories with my girls when they were little. They loved coming to the garden and following the Koi fish around with all of their colors and beauty. The Shinzen Garden really is a magical place.

Beyond this Koi pond, there are waterfalls and phenomenal views of the lake. It’s a must-see, stunning sight. And if you're wondering what time of year is best to come out to the Shinzen Japanese Garden, my personal favorite is right now in the Fall. The changing leaves and mellow temperatures make it both beautiful and not too hot, not too cold.

My second favorite season would be Springtime, with all the blooming flowers and brilliant colors. In the spring quadrant, you’ll find a beautiful pond, little waterfalls, tree canopies, bridges, and more. Many people even choose to have their wedding out here. Here at the Shinzen Friendship Garden they can accommodates up to 200 guests, allowing you to choose which seasonal quadrant you want to have your wedding in. If you're a fan of photography or if you're looking to get some family photos taken, this is a perfect spot, as there are so many different opportunities here.

Experience Fresno Living

The Shinzen Japanese Garden is one of the many fun things to do in Fresno. It’s tucked away in Woodward Park, with many people skipping over it or driving by once they are in the park, because they don't realize it's here. This beautiful spot is located in the middle of the park, and if you've never seen it, you have to make your way over here.
